Teachers: Ealasaid, Katie & Laura
Class dates/times: April 22nd, April 29th, and May 7th all at 8 p.m. EST
Course Description: Magic can be transformative, inspiring, and life sustaining. Disabilities can be experienced, described, and/or perceived as limitations, hurdles, or life ending. There are those of us who live at the intersection of these possibly opposing forces and find ourselves seeking to deconstruct the ablest framing of our bodies, minds and experiences that has been woven into the fabric of our practices and communities.
Together in this class we will investigate the narratives about abilities, limits, and worth. Through a series of 3 zoom calls we will discuss ableism in society, magical spaces, and our own work, do guided meditation and have prompts to explore our thoughts and magic separately. Before each class students will receive an email with homework (journal and magical prompts) and students will be expected to join the zoom to discuss the work, and experience a meditation together. This class is not limited to those that identify as having a disability, or chronic illness, as we understand everyone has work to do dismantling ableism.
Woven into the class will be some minor introduction/discussion of concepts that Morningstar Mystery School works with including the Triple Soul, and the Rite of Unbinding. Classwork will be individually emailed to students (with reading, videos and some prompts, and there will be a series of three Zoom calls (all to be held at 8 p.m. Eastern time). During these calls there will be guided meditations, which will also be recorded.
This class is free, but it is encouraged that individuals make a donation (that feels meaningful) to a disability justice fund that feels important to them in this moment as a way to honor this work.
Expected outcomes: Students will have had a space to explore their relationship with disability and magic, resulting in a new ability to name and unbind the ableist framings that limit their individual potential and ability to collaborate with others.
Cost: This class is free, but it is encouraged that individuals make a donation (that feels meaningful) to a disability justice cause that feels important to them in this moment as a way to honor this work.
